Our Values

OPEN
As an open community, we work to offer radical hospitality to all and believe each person to be beloved by God, just as they are.

We celebrate God’s gift of diversity and value the wholeness made possible in community equally shared and shepherded by all. We welcome and affirm people of every gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation, who are also of every age, race, ethnicity, physical and mental ability, level of education, and family structure, and of every economic, immigration, marital, and social status, and so much more.

AUTHENTIC
As an authentic community, we value questions, affirm doubts, struggles, and pain, and rejoice with one another in our joys. We want you to be your whole, beloved self here at Wesley.

COMMUNITY
As a community, we center love of our neighbors in all we do.

We acknowledge that we live in a world of profound social, economic, and political inequities. And, as followers of Jesus, we commit ourselves to the pursuit of justice and pledge to stand in solidarity with all who are marginalized and oppressed.

At Wesley, we believe love to be a verb and central to our Christian identity.

What students have to Say

Aria (they/them)

“Wesley is important to me because it is a place where people of all kinds at all different stages of their faith can come and learn together. I feel safe as an LGBT+ person, I feel safe as someone deconstructing toxic Christianity, as someone with lots of questions, and most importantly I feel safe as me. At Wesley I am free to learn, and connect with other people like me, and I feel safe and loved and valued. Wesley feels like home to me.”

Audrey (she/her)

“Starting at a new school, I was nervous about finding a methodist church with other college students near campus. I had heard about Wesley and decided to attend a service. It was definitely a great decision, the community is so welcoming and kind. I have made connections with many of the members and can even call some of them my friends. I am now getting involved in the worship band and couldn’t be more excited! I keep coming back to Wesley because I truly feel like a beloved member of their community.”

Jenna (she/her)

Wesley has a sense of home like no other place on CMU’s campus. From worshiping during service, to communion, to the instant warmth I feel when I walk in the doors, Wesley reminds me that I am beloved by God. Sunday nights at Wesley also give me a chance to slow down from the stress of school and reconnect with the Spirit and those around me. For these reasons and many more, I will forever be grateful for the Wesley community.
